Our inline capillary flow restrictors are simple to install.  Simply push the 1/4" poly tube firmly into the quick connectors and you are done.  Be sure that you order the flow restrictor size to match your reverse osmosis membrane size.  They must match to operate at the correct efficiency.  To increase the efficiency of the system, we recommend the installation of a Permeate Pump.  Be sure to read about information on increasing the GPD capacity of the membrane and flow restrictor.

All RO systems use some type of flow restricting device to apply pressure to the membrane.  By restricting the flow rate to the drain the system applies proper pressure to the membrane.  There are 4 basic styles of flow restrictors.:

1.  An "Inline Flow Restrictor" as shown below.  These are simple to use and are very reliable.  Best choice of the different styles.  We highly recommend this style.

2.  An "Insert Flow Restrictor".  This is a small piece of plastic that fits inside of the brine outlet on the membrane housing or inside of the tube at the connection with the membrane housing.  You will need to remove the connector and look inside of it to see the "Insert" if it is in the connector fitting.  If it is in the end of the tube you can see it by removing the tube from the connector.  Do not confuse the Insert Flow Restrictor with a tube insert that is only designed to help the tube hold its shape.  This style of Insert Flow Restrictors will not appear to have a very large hole in them to allow water to pass.  These are typically a different color from the connector or regular tube inserts.  These are typically less expensive, must seat correctly to perform correctly and are not as service friendly.  See our new 303 SS Stainless Steel high quality custom insert flow restrictors below.

3.  "Connector/Flow Restrictor Combo".  These are a flow restrictor made right into the connector used on the membrane housing brine outlet (drain discharge).  This combo connector will physically look different than the other two connectors on the membrane housing.  They are typically more expensive and harder to locate.

4.  "Integral Flow Restrictors".   This is when the  flow restrictor is made as a part of the housing.  These are typically on an "encapsulated membrane" or "sealed membrane" housing that does not open.  The entire housing and membrane are replaced each time.  Since the housing cannot be opened the flow restrictor cannot be accessed.  While more expensive each time, it is easy to change.

Never use two flow restrictors at the same time on a reverse osmosis system.  This will alter the pressure applied to the membrane and negatively alter its performance.

TDS Meter - Test For Total Dissolved Solids In Water - Reverse Osmosis Membrane Tester - TDS Meter

TDS Meter - Tester. The Only Way To Know If Your Reverse Osmosis RO Membrane Is Performing Correctly - Tests for TDS - Total Dissolved Solids. A Must For All RO System Owners. Compare Incoming Feed Water To Treated Water - Replace Membrane If Less Than 80% of TDS Is Being Removed - Total dissolved solids (TDS) are the total weight of all solids (minerals, salts or metals) that are dissolved in a given volume of water expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/L), or in parts per million (PPM). The lower the TDS level in the water, the more efficiently your body's cells actually get hydrated by the water that you drink. The higher the TDS levels in the water, the greater the probability of harmful contaminants that can pose health risks or hinder the absorption of water molecules on the cellular level. 17 PPM of TDS = 1 grain of hardness. Highly efficient and accurate due to its advanced microprocessor technology. Hold Function: saves measurements for convenient reading and recording. Auto-off function: the meter shuts off automatically after 10 minutes of non-use to conserve batteries. Measurement Range: 0-9990ppm. From 0-999ppm, the resolution is in increments of 1ppm. From 1,000 to 9,990ppm, the resolution is in increments of 10ppm, indicated by a blinking 'x10' image. Display: large and easy-to-read LCD screen. Factory Calibrated: recalibration is not necessary, but can be done easily with a watch screwdriver. There's no need for messy solutions to initially calibrate the meter. Range: 0 - 9990ppm (mg/L) Accuracy: +/- 2% ATC: Built-in sensor for Automatic Temperature Compensation of 1 to 50 degrees Celsius (33 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit) Power source: 2 x 1.5V button cell batteries (included) Battery life: over 1,000 hours of continuous use Dimensions: 14 x 2.3 x 1.5cm (5.5 x .9 x .55 inches) Weight: 32g (1.13 oz) Simple to use for Reverse Osmosis membrane monitoring. Measure the incoming water and the RO water. Divide the larger number into the smaller number and subtract that decimal from 1. The resulting decimal is the percent of TDS that the membrane is removing. We really like this tester and think that anyone who wants to know about the quality of their water should have one of these TDS Meter Testers.

Backwash the softener and add 1 ounce of sanitizer per 8 gallons of water (200 ppm active quaternary) to the brine tank well. (NOTE: standard systems capacity is 48 gallons,) (The brine tank should have water in it to permit the solution to be carried into the softener.) Proceed with the normal regeneration or interrupt the cycle after the brining step and let the softener soak for a minimum of 60 seconds. Backwash the softener with potable water to make sure all sanitizing solution is thoroughly rinsed from the unit before returning it to service. Reverse Osmosis (RO) Units Sanitization should occur after initial installation, after the system is serviced and periodically during its use.
